Okay, everyone...

Please don't shoot me for asking this question. It seems like this forum is full of Aero-no-start questions, but, I wasn't able to find the solution to the symptoms I'm having... well, not me, of course... the car.

I just finished replacing a burned exhaust valve in my '93 Aero w/ TCS. It started and ran fine (albeit on 3 cylinders) prior to the surgery. I have it all back together with new plugs and I did an oil change, too. It just wouldn't start, though, after everything was all back together. I did find that that one of the vacuum lines popped off the throttle body (d'oh), so, I put it back on and tried some more. I also checked all of the plugs, connectors, and grounding harnesses: all fine. All fuses fine, too.

Still, no start. I pulled all of the spark plugs and blew out the cylinders and cleaned the plugs (lots of fuel on them) and tested the DI cassette. Everything seems just fine!

Still, no start. SO! Then, just for grins, I pulled the boot off of the throttle body and felt to see if the throttle was opening. Yup... sure was. However, I noticed that the motor in the throttle body makes a little bit of noise and the butterfly kinda twitches when I twiddle with the throttle cable while the key is on. (It is the updated throttle body) So, with an open throttle body, I try to start it.

Still no start. I sprayed some carb cleaner in while my wife tried to start it. Still... you guessed it...

So, now I start down the road of troubleshooting the TCS. Maybe a bad safety valve. I switched them, tried to start... Still won't.

We keep fiddling and keep trying to start it, and all of a sudden it springs to life!!! Slightly paniced, my wife lets her foot off the gas and it immediately dies.

Well, at least there's hope. SO! I try and after a LOT of cranking. I can FINALLY start it. Coughing smoke (whitish) and running like crap, I manage to keep it going. Finally the idle settles down (although it still misses once or twice every few seconds) and it stays running. I put the intake hose back on the TB, and all seems right with the world.

Excited to try it out, we take it around the block and drive it very gently. We pull it back into the driveway and turn it off. We try to restart it, and it starts right up. "WE DID IT," I think. However, we do notice more noise from the fuel pump than we've heard before. It seems to vary in pitch. We do have the back seat out of the car, so, I chalk it up to hearing the pump because the seat is out. The fuel gauge indicates that I have a little over a 1/4 tank left.

We go back in. Have a cup of coffee, and I come back out and try to start it again. This time it starts right up, but, immediately dies. It does this 5 or 6 times, and by this time, the battery is dead.

Grunt...

SO! Having read that novella, do any of you have any thoughts about what else it could be??

Thanks VERY much for your help.
