No, and other issues Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Fri, 28 Aug 2009 17:26:55 In Reply to: Ever heard of Calorstat 82degree thermo for 9000-97T, mgw, Fri, 28 Aug 2009 09:39:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There is a very good reason why the 97 appears to run cooler than the '94 - and weston mentioned it. From about '95 on, Saab changed how the tempertaure gauge reads. It no longer is directly driven by the temperature sensor. It will read about 7 to 7:30 even as the temperature sensor increases. Only if the temperature goes well above normal will the gauge reading increase.
And the '97 has no radiator fan switch - the fan is driven by the computer based on coolant temperature.
I wouldn't use an unknown thermostat. Replacing a thermostat takes a bit of time and effort on a 9000. If it doesn't fit right or otherwise messes up, it's a bit of work to do it again.
Saving the cost of a new thermostat isn't worth having to do the job twice. And if a thermostat sticks, the engine can overheat and be damaged very quickly. And the one you have might fit, and might not.
I say toss it, and use a known good one.
