I had a pretty scary moment today on Interstate 95. I was driving with my father and daughter when I heard a loud pop and suddenly the cabin filled with hot steam. There was no warning and I couldn’t see anything. It was that thick. Fortunately, the traffic was light and I didn’t panic. I managed to roll down the windows and could just see out the driver’s side mirror; the left hand lane was clear. I quickly got over and parked the car off the road. As soon as the car was parked, hot antifreeze dumped on my father's left foot causing a 2nd degree burn. Needless to say I’m pretty upset this happened. I’m hoping it’s just the heater core, but I've never heard of one blowing-up and causing so much steam/damage. I had the car towed to my mechanic’s shop, but he isn’t open until Tuesday. Any ideas on what could have caused this mess? I’m happy that traffic was light and nobody was hurt. It’s very difficult to drive at 70 mph without being able to see. Still love the car but damn that hvac system…
