Speedo sensor gear worn?

Merry Christmas,
My Speedo/odometer went out the other day and was finally able to pull the speedo sensor. I hooked it up to a drill and put a mirror in front of the gauges and it worked just fine when I hit the drill. My question is......does the gear that is connected to the sensor likely to wear out first or the gear that it matches up to inside the transmission. I have pics of the sensor gear but not sure how to post them here. Also, where can I get a new one if it is indeed what I need?? Cant find it anywhere! Thanks for any help, I have searched many posts here & I know its one gear or the other now, and I know which one I prefer it to be!!! I can email the pics I have if you want to take a look to help out.
Cheers!
Mark
