Ten years ago (about...) I was taking an nighttime auto body class, restoring a Saab 99. When the time came for paint, the one gallon of color paint in a DuPont solid color (Antelope Brown), plus all the accouterments and other things set me back nearly $500. And that wasn't with the top of the line paint. So $1,000 to $1,500 wouldn't be out of the question for better paint.
Also, I didn't have to pay for some common stuff like thinners, etc., as they were provided by the school under the shop fee, so even the $500 I paid was below what one person doing one car might need to pay.
Oh, and the 9000 is a larger car, so one gallon of paint might not do the whole car, as it did with the 99, and that would raise the cost as well.
