First, your description of "goo" additives would make a petroleum engineer cringe. Do you have anything to back up this assertion that modern synthetic oils are combinations of oil and "goo", and in which the content of "goo" is directly and inversely proportional to the weight range of the oil? Please cite a source.
Second, the 0 weight oil will flow better at all cold starting temperatures, even a mild 0C; no arctic circle needed. Conversely, the owners manual specifically states that 15W can be used EXCEPT in cold weather. Your definition of cold weather might be -50 or lower, but I don't think that's what the writers of the manual had in mind. Delvac 15W40 has a pour point of -30C, which means that it basically doesn't flow at all below that temperature, and it doesn't just miraculously flow easily at -29. Is this the oil you want in your car when starting it at -30C, or even -20C? A pretty large percentage of readers here will be in those situations.
When given the choice between oils of 5W40 and 15W40, there is no advantage to using 15W40. They perform the same at operating temperature, and 5W40 flows better at starting temperature. The "more goo" claim is unsubstantiated BS until demonstrated otherwise.
