and what you need. And the also cost/value relationship when costly repairs come due. I did the suspension (springs, shocks, SAS Bars) 2 years ago, so won't have to think about that again. But I know the clutch will come up (still have the original at 170,500). New skins on the seats are going to be necessary, or maybe just seats from another car. It's a matter of what makes sense. Also, I live in New England and use the car year-round, so winters take their toll.
I need a car I can count on to take me reliably to clients who are up to 7 hours drive time away, will hold a bunch of equipment I need for business, and do other driving biz trips. Plus haul a trailer to the dump or to Home Depot or bring home a yard of topsoil. And haul my kayaks and take me skiing in bad weather. And maybe do 2-3 track days a year.
I can certainly make my '96 go for a good number of miles, but as cars age stuff just fails, wears out and parts become harder to get. And a daily driver cannot last indefinitely in the northeast unless one's hobby is taking care of the car. OTOH, I only drive about 12K a year, so I can make it last awhile longer. I'm still going for 250K miles.
