Slight differences but later doors will work. Posted by Daven [Email] (#290) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Daven) on Mon, 19 Jul 2010 08:14:51 In Reply to: doors and seats..., ryand, Wed, 14 Jul 2010 16:48:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When an NYC taxi nailed both the driver's side doors on my '92 9KT, I replaced them with doors from a '95 CSE. They bolt right on without issue.
The differences are in the electronics and the holes in the door for the side moldings. With regard to the electronics... up=down for my driver's side window switches. I tried switching the wirings but to no avail. I may have just made a hasty mistake.
As for the holes in the door; they are way too high for you to just pop on your '86-'90 moldings. You have to pop out the little plastic inserts in the door holes and pull out the plastic mounting inserts protruding from the back of your older style moldings. Use trim adhesive to mount the older style moldings to the new doors. If you try and align the door trim with the existing trim on the fender and quarter panel, it may not be high enough to fully cover the holes in the door. What I did was mount the older style trim on the doors so it just covered the holes and moved the trim on the fender and quarter panel higher to match. We're talking about 1/4"-1/2" here. On the inside of the doors I used black electrical tape covered with duct tape just to make sure no water got past the molding.
