Major arcing of the window switches occurs when the switch is released. Back EMF (Electro Motive Force), which is due to the collapse of the motor magnetic field, drives current through the switch as it opens. The back EMF (voltage) can be many times the supply voltage, which can be tough on switches. I don't recall the window motors or switches having inductive suppression. Another high arc event is when the motor direction is changed rapidly. Like quickly switching from up to down before the motor has a chance to stop turning one direction before applying power for the other direction.
