Monroe gets beat up by folks because they make a shock that isn't as performance-oriented as some here prefer.
But for most people it just doesn't matter. And in older cars, given that the shocks will last a few years, they're fine unless you do track days or just have to have what you think of as the best possible shocks.
When my '96 CSE needed shocks I went with the complete Sachs Sport Chassis kit which gave me Aero springs and Sachs shocks because I wanted the performance upgrade and do occasional track days. My daughter's '95 CS, OTOH, which could definitely use some new shocks, will get Monroes, as that car doesn't need anything more.
