Trionic = ECU, kinda Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Sun, 5 Dec 2010 06:50:27 In Reply to: CPS for '94 and up, Paul Broeckx, Sun, 5 Dec 2010 06:21:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
ECU is the generic term for Engine Control Unit. Pre-94 in the Saab it was the LH-Jetronic system made by Bosch. Sometimes referred to as Jetronic, or simply LH and the type number (2.2, 2.4, 2.4.1 etc.) Either way, it's the engine control box. It consisted of a fuel controller, and Saab used a separate ignition controller. That's because LH was developed way back in the old distributor-ignition days, and was used on cars other than Saab (Volvo, for example). For ignition, they had either the EZK (distributor) or later DI system.
Saab developed their own engine control system for '94, and they named it Trionic. They wrapped the functionality of the ignition controller into the single Trionic box along with the fuel control portion.
You now officially know more than necessary, and you'll have to forget something.
