The original Motorcraft battery in our '01 Mustang lasted 8 years. My Saab owner's manual recommends disconnecting the battery's negative cable if the car will sit for 30 days or more. With the engine off the battery continues to power the anti-theft system, volatile computer memory and sensors. The battery's location subjects it to road and engine vibrations, which doesn't help. The operating temperature at that location is high compared to what it would be at other locations, and heat shortens battery life. I don't know what a "reasonable" life expectancy is for a 34R battery in a Saab 9000, but 3 years seems short for a 75 month Megatron battery.
