I was skeptical of this fix, but so many said it worked I thought I'd give it a try. To my amazement it worked! The locks, which have hardly worked at all for the past several days, now operate very reliably even on a chilly morning. There do not seem to be any problems with the actuators, they all work solidly, but on my "to do" list is to open the doors and lube the lock and window mechanisms.

Just to be safe I removed fuse #16 before proceeding. You need to take down the fibreboard panel under the driver's side dash. There are 5 black plastic trim fasteners, you need to dig the center pin out (I used the tip of an electrical tester) and pull down to release. (I managed to break 4 out of the 5 fasteners, of course, so for now I left the cover off.)

Get under there with a flashlight or drop light, up to the left you will see a black plastic box about "1 x 4" or so, fastened to a metal projection with a clip. Pull the clip and the controller easily comes out, then disconnect the cable and take the unit to your work bench.

What stymied me initially is how to take it apart. You will see clips on either side of the electrical connector. What you need to do is slip a thin screwdriver into each to make enough room for the clips to clear, and pull the circuit board out.

The solder joints all looked good, but I proceeded anyway; all of the pins on the two relays as well as the connector, using a low-wattage pencil iron and some fresh solder. Be very careful as some of the circuit traces are thin and you don't want to bridge them. (I examined with a magnifying glass when done to look for shorts.) Then I put it all together, not expecting much, and was floored that it actually worked! (I've also read that the contacts inside the relays can get corroded and need cleaning up, I'll probably pick up a junkyard controller to experiment with taking the relays apart.)

So as long as this fix holds the only locking issue remaining is that the plastic lock pull on the rear passenger door doesn't work, it's just loose and flops around, not doing much of anything. I assume this broke down where it connects to the lock mechanism. (Another part for the junkyard list...)
