Speedo transducer access

So I finally got some time today to fool with this and try to access and swap out the gear since my speedo quit working.
How in the world do you get enough space and access to get a wrench on this and turn it? I tried from the side by taking the left front tire off the car and removing the inner fender cover - it's too far inside.
I tried getting to it from above and there's too many hoses, wires and other mechanical things in the way.
So now I have the car up on ramps in the front. I can see it well from underneath now, but the shifter coupling, the exhaust downpipe and the body frame are all enough in the way that I still can't get a wrench AND a hand up in there to loosen the transducer threaded connection.
Inputs/hints/ideas are greatly accepted!!
