The torque spikes are what damage the transmissions. From what I remember, Derf used to do his own "tuning" before someone(me) told him about T5 Suite. His own "tuning" of turning the boost up to 22psi was probably giving him hard tq spikes and led to his multiple transmission failures. The spinning tires do reduce the load on the engine, but transfer that strain onto the axles(good thing they are so easy and quick to replace). :-) The large amounts of tq, suddenly(instead of a gradual increase), while maintaining traction(happens more in higher gears) will put the most strain on the transmission itself.
