Bought the car for $800. It's a CSE 5 speed, 2 owners - the first owned it for 10 years and apparantly kept it in good shape and garaged it. She sold it to the 2nd owner at 75K miles 4 years ago, and that owner didn't look after it very well. It was rarely driven in winter so the body and undrecarraige are in remarkable shape, but it was badly in need of a thorough cleaning. Interior is in good shape. Few records other than a repair statement showing brakes, and exhaust replacement 3 years ago.
The owner could not get it to start - the battery was totally dead - I later found out due to an interior light issue - they tried jumper cables but it wouldn't turn it over. I put a new battery in it and it started right up. Car runs really good. I've driven a 9000 since 1997 and own 2 other 97 9000's now, so I'm familiar with the cars, but this problem is new for me.
I didn't see any smoke when first started. Coolant was a little low. Drove it home 20 miles and noticed what I thought was bluish smoke when I came to a stop at a traffic light. No obvious smoke on the highway. It seemed to be getting worse as a drove. The car ran fine, but the turbo didn't boost far into the yellow. I changed the plugs yesterday - they were unremarkable other than the fact they they were well past their prime.
I'll be changing the oil and checking compression tonight.
