I brought up a 1998 9000 I bought in Rhode Island around this time last year (I'm in Montreal). All I needed to show was my Bill of Sale from the dealer. Two years ago I picked up a 1988 900TC in Vermont which, being over 15 years old, passed under the radar of the DoT, i.e. I could not formalize the transfer of title to the car if I wanted to (which I did) but my own Bill of Sale with the U.S. address and phone number of the seller was all that Canadian Customs needed to whack me for the GST. They really just want your money. The 1998 was new enough it went onto the Imported Vehicle Registry which meant an inspection in addition to the SAAQ mandated mechanical inspection which was a bit of a nuisance and of course more $$$. Are you in Montreal? I am in TMR. Good luck!
