...but I'd give up a small amount of performance to be able to use a $50 scan tool any day! Realistically, how often in North America can you utilize the power these cars have even in stock configuration?
I will say this for the '93--my 5sp Aero was psychotically fast despite no modifications... I had an E34 M5 in the stable when I was daily-driving the '93 Aero and while the M5 surely had the edge on handling (and engine sound...), the Aero had a more useful power band for anything resembling normal driving... the M5 didn't start to show its power advantage until well into the triple MPH digits... when those '93s are in tip top shape and running ultra-premium petrol (I always ran 94 octane), they REALLY fly... lower compression ratio than the '94/up means more turbo lag however (this is quite noticeable driven back to back--the '94/up is considerably stronger off-boost), but ultimately more boost.
