Hidden Flash Code? How to clear? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Wed, 15 Feb 2012 20:37:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A couple of weeks ago, my 1994 9000 CS Turbo started idling roughly and was using more gasoline than usual (could smell sulfur odor when stopped). A short time later, a check engine light appeared and I read the expected four flash code for a coolant temp sensor. Note that the temp gauge, which uses a different sensor, was behaving normally indicating that the engine was warming up properly. I measured the resistance on the sensor (the one between cylinders 2 & 3 on the intake manifold) and got normal readings (1.2K Ohms for a semi-warm engine), so I cleaned off the contacts and no more check engine light.
Today I noticed that when I turn the key to "on" but don't start the engine that I still get a four-flash code on the check engine light; after starting the car the check engine light turns off. Is there some hidden code? Is this going to go away on its own, does it have to be cleared somehow, or is it indicating that a problem is still there (maybe not as bad)?
