Valve cover removal woes- help!

The nasty head gasket symptoms finally showed up - capaccino oil is the big one.
This is a '97 Saab 9000....I've done the HG job on my 900 and I've got the 9k torn down quite a ways now. I'm at the step of removing the valve cover. I had it off last fall to replace the gasket. Torqued it to spec with my torque wrench...
Now the Torx bolts won't budge, even with the right size torx driver....any thoughts on how to free these up? Heat possibly (I'm reluctant to use an open flame in my garage with the fuel rail disconnected)? Can't really get vice-grips on these, either. And I can't run the car because it is torn d0wn - no belts, etc...no coolant, AC compressor is resting on the radiator cross-member....
Thanks for any help/ideas!
