I had been maintaining my car A/C systems for years with a low side gauge only; that said, I bought a more accurate dual gauge set last year for about $50.
Pressures in the A/C system are VERY dependent on the ambient air temp. On my low side gauge for R-134a, the following pressures the "green" area:
65 degrees F = 30 PSI
75 degrees F = 40 PSI
85 degrees F = 50 PSI
