Cleaning TCS Safety Runoff Valve? Posted by Daven [Email] (#290) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Daven) on Sun, 2 Sep 2012 12:22:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey all. Is there a way to clean the TCS Safety Runoff Valve (located on the false bulkhead of a '95 Aero? Here's why I ask...
Just finished a head gasket job on my 1995 9000 Aero. Car was running beautifully for 100 or so miles till it started stalling out on me. It would drive normal then stall. After starting the engine again it would rev fine up to 1800 rpm before the pedal would stiffen and the engine would stall. There's a Check Engine Light but no TCS lights. Its not in limp mode because the car won't drive at all. To get home again, I reversed the orientation of the red&white Check Valve between the TCS Safety Runoff Valve and Intake Manifold. THAT got me home in Limp Mode but still no TCS lights came on. I cooled the engine down, changed the check valve and used My friend's T5 Suite reset the codes. The issue went away for another 100 miles before stalling again. It's been two days now and after cooling down completely, the car will drive fine for an hour or so before stalling again. Until I can get to a shop with Tech 2 on Tuesday, I haven't a clue how to fix this and would appreciate advice.
Engine timing and compression are perfect. I replaced all vacuum hoses and both check valves and the TCS Safety Runoff Valve has only 10k miles on it. I'm thinking that the failed head gasket allowed the engine to over-pressurize the oil, pushing it through seals and causing the engine to burn it. It was smoking pretty good. Could some of this burning oil gunk up the TCS valve to the point where it must be replaced or cleaned out? Is there a proper way to clean them?
Thanks!
