No, I took a chance and tried one I pulled from a junkyard car, on the idea that flashing airbag lights are a rarity and probably the junker went to its grave with a working system with no faults. I got lucky.
I think the code that gets set stays permanently unless reset with the proper tool, and though it's probably cheap enough to have an indy do it, just the hassle of scheduling and leaving the car till done is enough to scare me off from that route.
I got the brain real cheap in with a lot of other stuff, maybe he even waved me away that day at no charge. The car I pulled it from was half apart and the thing was just there staring at me. I had read on here where it resided, top center of floor hump up near the firewall, and once you pull it you'll see a label on it that identifies what it is in plain English.
To get that carpet panel off my car, I stuck my fingers under its bottom edge near each of the plastic push-in holders, and worked it till their fringed pegs came out of the holes they stick in. I have an upholstery-fastener tool, pronged tip, bent shank, but there's really no way to get it under the heads of the fasteners and nothing much to pry against either.
Big secret here is make sure battery is disconnected in both donor car and your car, until everything is in place, and make sure the fuse for it is good and in place, then hook up the power.
