I'm hoping to wrap it up in the next few days as well. I've found that it goes back together way easier than it came apart - but also that I could probably do the job much faster the next time. Much less figuring out, more doing, I suppose.

It took me a little while to figure out how to rig the timing correctly, but I've finally got it down right. The trick is to not really care about the different colored links. Initially, I spent a lot of time trying to line those up right. Really what you want to do is line up the notch on the crank pulley with the tab on the timing cover (so you know the crank is positioned for the #1 cylinder to be TDC), and then make sure the two cams are lined up with the notches in their marks, then simply put the chain on.

I also learned that it's much easier to install the timing cover first, then put the HG and head back on. I know there are folks who say they can install the timing cover without loosening the head or disturbing the head gasket - they often suggest putting the timing cover in the freezer - but for me I found it nearly impossible to do without messing up the head gasket.

Also, in my instructions, I show how I made a cheaper version of the circlip pliers that you'd need to remove the big clip in front of the oil pump - and they worked pretty darned well as removing it. They're not so good at putting the clip back in, though. They would keep slipping off the clip. I finally bought the OTC tool that everyone uses. It has a ratcheting mechanism to keep the clip compressed during install, and it works like a charm.
