I've done this modification. That era of air bag is of minimal, if any value. A couple of things to bear in mind, one is that you had to cut away some brackets using a reciprocating saw - not too fun. You also have to re-locate the fuse/relay box from below to above the glove box, and jury-rig a way to keep it in place. If you need to replace a relay at some point, it means taking off the dash top rather than just removing a couple of screws and dropping the panel in the foot well. The fuses are still accessible through the glove box. Removing the air bags is a simple procedure, and not particularly risky. I have a write up somewhere on that, and keeping the SRS light off, but it's on another computer.
