The best idea of all I'll put first: Get a standard type nut of same thread, not the kind with nylon keeper part on it, and run that on first, and you can pull the taper seated down hard into the bore. Then undo your temporary nut and install the proper nut in its place, and the taper should hold things against spinning.
Or, you can try just a little oil in the threads and proper nyloc-type nut, first, but if it starts spinning and you need to do the above trick, you may have a hard time getting it back off. You don't want any oil, or anything else, on the taper part or the taper bore. But a little oil, say, inside the nut on its threads, will make it go on easier and the nyloc part also spin on the threaded part so it doesn't try so hard to spin the taper part. The channellocks keeping pressure on the taper is also a good idea.
If it's already part way on and starts spinning, then a sharp snap of the wrench, instead of slow steady push, often gets it to turn on and gain on the slippage, a little at a time, till it sucks the taper in and it grabs.
