if you are not very familiar with this procedure (having done it at least once before fairly recently), getting the whole thing back together again without a leak can be a challenge for some.
If you are a mechanic by trade and have a lift and everything else at your disposal (not that a lift is required, but it can be helpful lining up the pump with the block b/c balance shaft obscures view)you probably will be fine.
but if it is not leaking at all-I'd steer clear of it. as T.Christopher mentions above, replacing things just because they someday could lead to failure is a slippery slope.
and most reports seem to indicate they do give fair warning, most of the time.
the townsend site has some wonderful write-ups regarding the saab cooling systems and if after studying all of that you still end up at "It needs to be replaced" then go for it.
*edit* to answer your question-I went with Hepu, about 10,000 miles ago, along with mercedes coolant and 82 degree tstat, new water pipe, new reservoir, and new hoses and cap. my old pump leaked for 20,000 but only at the seal at the block which I gambled using barrs leak on and worked for me, until the headgasket went due to corrosion from the green coolant.
