Having some shifting issues in my 1986 9000T with 110k miles. Last weekend I finished installing a brand new Sachs clutch kit along with a new slave cylinder and hose. Three of the four motor mounts were bad so I replaced all of them, went stock hydraulic for the two lowers and Powerflex polyurethane for the two uppers. Also replaced the transmission mount with a Powerflex polyurethane mount. So all of the mounts are new.
However, I've noticed some new shifting issues after putting it back on the road. When stopped I have to select another gear before shifting into either third or reverse or they both will grind. Having owned and driven many Saabs I'm used to doing this in reverse but I've never had to do it for any forward gear.
I've also noticed that when driving I will grind third either downshifting or upshifting if I'm not extra careful. Again, I'm pretty easy on Saab gearboxes, general pausing between shifts. If I do this third seems generally okay but even still will grind occasionally, as if it has a worn synchro.
I checked the gearbox oil level and it is fine. I tried adjusting the the shift linkage per the Haynes manual and it seems adjusted correctly. The rubber shift coupling is also pretty recent, I replaced it maybe six months ago.
So what gives? My gut feeling tells me that this is somehow being caused by the new mounts, that things are slightly out of of alignment due to the harder polyurethane. Maybe I need to play with the shift linkage some more?
The one thing I fear is that this is somehow caused by the clutch not fully disengaging due lack of lubrication on the input shaft splines, I forgot to grease it before reinstalling the gearbox but it went back together fine. I've done maybe a dozen clutches and have not always lubed the splines and it was never an issue.
