I have one Aero with 285k miles on the original engine, and the chain is nice and quiet sounding.
My other Aero, with 175k had a really noisy chain. It started sounding like a diesel. Turned out it had a stuck lifter. The extra stress on that likely lead to the increased chain stretch and guide wear that was making my chain really noisy, even with the tensioner fully extended.
I re-did the chains when I did the head gasket last summer. It's quiet now. So I'd say if it sounds healthy, it probably is. My car was noisy for years before I fixed it. A bad chain or guides isn't likely to sneak up on you.
