How should spark plugs look after 5,000 miles? Posted by sam96CS [Email] (#852) [Profile/Gallery] (more from sam96CS) on Thu, 15 Aug 2013 15:20:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
'96 9000 CS fpt auto at 196,000 miles. After 5,000 miles my plugs look like pictures 22 and 23 in the link below. How should they look?
More details:
About 60% interstate and 40% suburban miles.
Most trips are long enough to fully warm up.
93 octane Shell gasoline.
Air filter also at 5,000 miles.
Engine doesn't use oil. The oil is 5W40 synthetic.
Plugs are NGK BCPR 7ES (0.036" gap).
Running and boosting okay but poor fuel economy.
Idles smoothly at about 850 rpm.
Visible vacuum lines are good including at charcoal canister.
PCV and BPV are good.
OBD2 reports the long term fuel trim is +35.94% which indicates a very lean condition. Trionic would try to adjust for this by dumping in a lot of fuel. I hear a hiss at idle located near the throttle body, maybe below it. I'll investigate that next.
