Ethanol vs non-ethanol fuel will have a huge difference. That Ethanol fuel puts a hurting on your gas mileage to the point that it's worth paying the higher price for non-ethanol. Mythbusters did a test on this.

In my car, premium fuel also produces more mpg, but I have to weigh the cost difference. If the premium is less than 10% difference than the 87, I'll pay the higher cost and make it up in mileage. Mythbusters (sorry for the repeat reference) said this doesn't work on a normally-aspirated car, but my research online shows boosted cars (turbo/supercharger) can make use of the extra octane.

Also, cooler air is denser and will improve your mileage. Race cars produce more hp in cooler air. Also, were you running your A/C on your earlier runs? That's about a 10% mpg reduction in my rough calculations.
