Not to promote or dis anyone's rebuilds, but I had an experience about 10 years ago with a Nissan Maxima rack, some Canadian company. VERY difficult removal and reinstall. Did it, car then sat uncompleted a few years. Rack never exposed to road salt, oil spray, engine heat, anything, protected under car from UV rays, but about the time I finally went to get it back on the road, noticed the once beautiful new boots at either end that came on the rebuild had cracked all apart at the accordion pleats, rubber totally inflexible junk. Maybe three years at outside, NO use.
Luckily I had a set of Nissan boots in the dealer's plastic bag, and put them on.
Saab rubber is very good quality. Rebuilders don't have the clout to insist on getting the same and not a lot of incentive to ask for it either. So if you're a DIYer and the old boots are still good I'd strip them off the rack and stow them before turning it in.
