Stereo install question

I am installing an Alpine stereo in my '95 Aero. I got the interface for the amp from crutchfield when I bought the last stereo, so I still am using that. Stereo sounds great, but when I turn off the car I lose all of my presets. I have double and triple checked the connections for the constant power and switched power and they are all good. Is there a possibility that the constant and switched power are backwards? Will I do any harm if I try to switch them? What else could be the problem. I have done close to 100 installations but I have never had a problem like this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
