I've had an '88 9000T, '91 9000T, and '95 9000CSE, so all three generations of the car. First of all, you need not fear the TCS system. They last about 100K miles or so, basically what everyone else in the world expects out of the longevity of their whole car. When it happens, you just install a rebuilt throttle body. On the 9000, it's easier than the 9-3 or 9-5, and similar to the 900.
The '91-92 models were geared low for brisk acceleration, so MPG is not so good. I get about 29 MPG on the highway in my '91. The '88 had a smaller engine - 2L - and I got about 33 MPG highway. That was a very fast car. The '91 is supposedly faster, but I really liked the '88. The '95 felt more refined, smoother, and I liked its dashboard/instrument cluster.
I'm looking for another 9000, as well, so you can see I like them. Easy to work on, a great hauler for your stuff, and fun to drive.
