My speedometer works about 80% of the time. What will typically happen is when I start driving, the speedo is working. If I then make a stop, after I start the car again the speedo doesn't work, and will not work again for the remainder of the trip. After the car has sat for a while, for example while I'm at work, when I start it again the speedo will work. On very rare occasions, it will stop for a few seconds while I'm driving and then come back on again. Based on these symptoms, I have more or less ruled out the drive gear in the transmission; if that was broken, I can't see how it would alternate between working and not working. I pulled the electronic sensor, and tried two used sensors, one of which I know for sure was working. I tested these by running them with a drill while the ignition was on. I don't see the speedometer move with any of the three sensors. If I assume at least one of the sensors is good, what does this leave? Bad connection, speedo head? I'm assuming the wire on the connector is part of the main wiring harness, so I think that would be the worst case scenario.
