I was wondering what a "high performance" thermostat does. Per Motorad it flows 56 gallons per minute vs. 37 gallons per minute for the standard thermostat at 15 psi of pressure. A must-have for towing a trailer at 90 mph across the desert.
I think the 2065-180 is the high performance version of the 265-180. Amazon won't tell you this because either they don't know or they don't want to be a party to a mod that could affect emissions.
But if you do some digging you'll find a link like the one below that for the same Chevy S10 engine lists the 265-195, 265-180, 265-160, 2065-195 and 2065-180. That's 5 MotoRad options that fit the same hole, 3 with the standard flow rate and 2 with the high flow rate.
MotoRad wants to stay out of trouble, so they list only the 265-195 and the 2065-195 for the 4.3L V6 in the '03 S10. It's all about emissions.
The real issue is whether it operates in 2 positions (closed and open) or 3 positions like a Saab thermostat should. The middle position allows flow both to the heater core and the radiator to provide cabin heat and cool the engine. If the 2065-180 lacks this position, then your engine will be cool and you will be also in the winter.
