There IS no real substitute or replacement for a 9000 - they are the very pinnacle of automotive achievement on this planet.
Yes, they are - despite some crappy ideas like the cabin temp sensor fan - and the gremlins which seem to nest in the central locking & alarm for fun.
My POV as an old guy:
I was blessed to get what will almost certainly be my final Aero - and hopefully it will outlive me.
It did need some work beyond my reach - so it went directly to my Saab specialist.
What did I do here in Subaru-land (Vermont...) ??
I picked up a cheap, old Outback for that duration.
Any amount of waiting was 100% worth it IMO, to keep being a 9000 driver.
Getting done with an otherwise well cared for 9000 is a very one-way trip - and speaking as one who prefers NOT to take that trip, I would recommend having the repair done & keeping your old friend with you until there is ZERO possibility of keeping that wonderful and very rare friend around any longer.
