Enamored? Yes indeed.
I bought my first SAAB while in college. It may have been the best SAAB I had ever owned although I didi not know it back then. !964 or 65 (somewhere in the early 60s). It had a nice three cylinder engine. I had to mix the gas and the oil. But that car went anywhere I wanted to go in southern Vermont. I can remember turning around and backing up snowy hills. It had a little window shade thingy in front of the radiator. I could block off the air flow or open it up depending on the temp.
Many SAABs since. This 1995 CDE may have been a mistake to buy. But there is less than 100,000 miles on it and the body is really nice. I suspect that one of its big problems is that someone took the 6 out of it and put in a 4. They may not have known all they should. This makes it hard to buy parts.
Anyway . . . Now I have apparently blown the power steering mechanism. I should not have attempted to work on it by myself. The tubing on the bottom of the power steering reservoir was leaking. I cut about 1/2 inch off both tubes and reconnected them. Leak fixed. Then I refilled the reservoir and started the car. I HAD FORGOTTEN TO REPLACE THE TANK COVER. I blew power steering fluid all over the engine compartment and ran the steering pump with no fluid. Now it is making a horrible noise when I turn the steering wheel.
Yes, this may have been a mistake. I have owned two 9Ks before and it's a nice car. Never had all these problems with either previous car.
