Very goofy EDU & other gremlins. Posted by vtsnaab [Email] (#26) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vtsnaab) on Tue, 19 Jul 2022 18:21:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I realize that in the larger picture that these are very minor concerns.
All the same I ask here in case anyone has managed to figure out and fix similar concerns.
In my '97 Aero, when it was cooler weather & the car had sat for a while, I got very slow cranking - so of course began actively keeping watch on the starting voltage display of the EDU as that has always been helpful for me in my other cars before this.
Back then it showed a bit over 8 volts, and the engine did start.
Before even leaving that day I grabbed the tiny booster pack I have just to be sure I'd not get stuck away from home someplace.
When I returned I put the battery on the Battery Minder conditioner & it had days of that as the car was not needed.
Next time (& as always) I removed the charger, turned the key to 'on' & the EDU read just over 12 volts & the engine fired right up as it should - but the cranking voltage read only like 9.1 volts.
Between then & now the car has sat alot & anytime I know it'll just sit it gets the charger put on.
I've gotten superb results by doing this same thing for over a decade & have lots of faith in it.
Lately it has been very warm here & when I've needed to go out the cranking voltage never shows over 9.4 volts - the engine starts fine & while driving along all seems well except that I've got a USB charger with a built in voltmeter which always shows higher than the EDU does.
So...this has me thinking of possibly loose ground connections, perhaps ??
Once this awful heat passes & I know I can do it, I'll be doing some stuff with the dash top off.
I figure once I have that crowded space open that maybe, just maybe I'll be able to find the culprit if it is that, BUT=>
I'd really feel stupid if there's like 6 of those & I can only find ~3, so can anyone tell me in words how many there should be within reach from the top & some ideas of their locations, please ??
My other gremlins (which are super unimportant) are the very sometimey central locking response as well as the little alarm LED that has never worked right in the time I've had this car - and IIRC it is also possible for faults in those things to be just as grounding related as all else may be.
I'll greatly appreciate any/all eduction in these matters !!
Thanks for reading all that.
