After reading this, you all will think this was a trivial matter all along :|
Had a coolant flush a year ago by respectable Saab mechanic. Did not ask what type of antifreeze was put in. Expansion tank showed a darker color liquid, like green or blue, but later I realize after removing and cleaning it, the expansion tank had hose rubber dust stuck on its walls, and plastic itself is discolored. The mechanics probably used either universal coolant or orange/amber color antifreeze mix.
Recently, check radiator light came on and off when my friend was driving. He took a sample out of expansion tank, it looked more green than anything else, he topped off the coolant with 50-50 green antifreeze mix. The rest of the coolant bottle is with me, I know he added no more than 1/2 quart. Which is only 1/20 of a system of 10 quart capacity. My sample looks more green than 1/20. But if all the 1/2 quart green floated to top, my sample could have such noticeable green layer because I drained it from the top of the radiator. Maybe rest of the coolant in the radiator (at the bottom) is pure orange/amber.
There might have been some old green left over from before the coolant flush too. Maybe mechanics did not see the need to drain every corner of the system (heater core?) because they were going to add universal coolant anyways.
Long story short, it seems there is no need to panic, and this is a mix of two coolants situation.
