Q's for checking seat heater (after reading FAQ)

I'm confused about a couple things: I have an 86 9k, before the heater dial control. Does this mean there is a thermostat in the seat (as in the 900)? I was somehow under the impression (i think from the owner's manual) that the seat heaters are activated via the acc heat button being switched on.
I had a blown fuse in the seat heater circuit and upon replacing it didn't feel any heat coming from the seats when I had the heater(acc) on. Is this because the temp was not low enough? And how does that work anyway? If the thermostat gets warmed up by your leg, won't it switch the circuit off, giving only a minute or so of a heated seat? And what's the deal with half the people saying they can't even notice the heat and half the people saying "if you have to ask if it's on, then it's not".
