CV Questions: Has Anyone Had it Apart?

Hello all,
The boot on my pass. side CV broke a few days ago and I took the CV out to replace boot and clean any dirt out at the same time also. The SAAB CV's seem to come all the way apart; now a have 6 steel balls, a ring that they fit into, a star shaped center and the cup that is the whole unit. I've cleaned all the parts with paint thinner and am ready to re-greese and re-assemble but for one problem which brings me to my question: How do the balls fit into the ring, and moreover, which way is the ring put in? What I mean by this is that on one side the ring is flat; on the other it's got a truncated edge. Depending on which way the center star in installed it has a different length.
If anyone has taken the CV apart again and has any tips or could help with the just described problem, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Jonathan
