I recently replaced the ball joints, the rear bushings for the front control arms and the front sway bar bushings and noticed a significant improvement in the way the car feels. I have read that others replaced the sway bar mounting studs at this time also, as their bolts tends to break when removed from the control arm. Fortunately mine were in good shape. Others have also written about difficulty in removing the plates that locate the rear control arm bushings. Apparently, there are additional, small headed bolts on the earlier 9000's that are inclined to become seized and are a real joy to remove. Fortunately, my 91 didn't have these troublesome bolts.
My model is a 91 9kt with 100k and I was surprised at how worn the ball joints were when I removed them. I didn't consider the car to drive poorly before this work, but was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. Be forewarned that this job took me the biggest part of the day, and I did not change the CV joints.
