Clutch realted problems

I am a new SAAB owner with little experience of cars in general, although I am learning the hard way. I just bought a SAAB 9000 TURBO, year '90 (120 000 miles). Two days ago the clutch started to mis-behave. The clutch pedal is closer to the floor than usual.
The garage told me that i need to change the slave cylinder, and should probably also change the rest of the clutch at the same time. Before putting 1000 USD into such a repair, I would like to be sure the technician is correct. I dought that the problem has to do with the slave cylinder due to other symptomps (the garage is not an SAAB-garage):
*Sometimes the cluch gets better (raises furhter from the floor and behaves normal). This happens sporadically when i pump the brake for a while.
*The brakes are stiff and has been so as long as I have owned the car.
*The Anti-Look-lamp flashes sporadically.
*The check break fluid lamp flashes sporadically.
All these prolbems leads me to think there could be some problem with the hydralic system for the breaks and the clutch. I guess noone has changed the oil for some time.
Has anyone had these kind of problems. Is there a cheap way out of here?? Why is my clutch sometimes feeling better and sometimes worse? I just need the car for another 2 months, and don't want to put a lot of money into it now!! Will a broken slavecylinder workj for anonther 2 months.
Thanks for all help!
Jakob Larsen
