It's always nice to hear both the pro and cons in a product such as this. As I mentioned in the previous thread, my coworker (who is by nature much more skeptical than I am, and who has been an electronics technician for over 20 years) says that he really did see all the improvements that Jacobs quotes, in his V*lvo and Mazda. In particular, he really saw the 10% fuel economy boost. That alone will easily pay for the unit in short order.
As you mention though, I think it's a waste to buy this thing for gains in full throttle power. One of the disappointing things about Dr. Jacobs books is that he really goes into no detail about how turbocharging effects the equation. Either it doesn't, or he doesn't think enough cars use it to warranty his going into the subject.
I also don't know how good the Saab ignitions are in comparison to other high performance ignitions on the market. I do know that I've had to replace two primary components, excluding the plugs and wires naturally, those being the ignition amplifier module and the distributor itself. At 240k miles though, could be normal I guess. Obviously Saabs, and the 9000 in particular, are very good at sustained full throttle running, as proven at Talladega in 1986, and my own not nearly so lengthy emperical testing. I think Saab did a pretty darned good job, but hey, if I can save 10% gas, that's well worth it!
The only fishy thing about Jacobs to me is their salespeople/technical people. And I think it's sometimes a stretch to call them technical anything. I think it's been mentioned before, that each person you talk to seems to give you a different answer. Furthermore, and this borders on downright rude, after I had made a couple calls to discuss my options with them, I received two phone calls from them at home, less than a week apart, at around 8:00 at night! And they are in TX, two hours ahead of me! They called to try and sell me their high end system at a discount, which was for this day or that week only or something. It has also been mentioned that you can and should haggle on the price, very much true!
Sorry to ramble on..still undecided, but still leaning in favor of getting the Omni Magnum. It's only around $300, and I'm pretty sure it can be returned if you don't get improved MPG (easy to install too).
