If I understand you correctly, then you're having trouble fitting the
splined end of the driver cups into the splines on the inside of
the intermediate shaft tube. There's a rubber o-ring that sits near
the end of the splined end of the driver cup. It takes some effort
to get this to seat all the way into the intermediate shaft. If you
put a board over the cup end of the driver and tap on it, the driver
will snap into place inside the intermediate shaft. It does take
some effort to separate these two pieces, but you probably didn't
notice it when taking it apart. That rubber o-ring is probably what's
keeping you a quarter of an inch from success. Good Luck
