Cellular connection

I have a used 89 9000 that apparently came with cell phone service included. I even have the phone (some late 80s monster jobbie that worked with Nextel aka Bell atlantic aka Verizon). My question is, anyone know how to connect the existing wiring with newer phones, like a Nokia 61xx? I'd like to be able to use the existing handsfree (builtin microphone and sound over the stereo) without installing a cheapo version. The connection lead in the car for the old phone resembles standard ethernet RJ45 or RJxx, but no mobile store I've talked to has a clue about this one.
Thanks
