My driver side worked ok but the passenger side was acting just like you described. After several unsuccessful applications of various lubes, I decided to take the thing apart. I ended up removing the latch mechanism (the 2 stage clasp that keeps the door closed) which is mounted on the inside of the door jamb with 3 torx screws. If you look at it from the side, you can see that a 3/16 pin moves up and down to release the spring loaded catch. The pin must eventually move slightly after 1000's of actuations and it no longer sits close enough to move the release for the latch. I put the mechanism in a vise and with large pliers, gently bent the pin back to a closer resting position against the release latch. Bingo! works like new now.
