Ok, so I got the aircleaner element out. It was pretty dirty (seen worse but not that much) and for lack of a new one, decided to try without one. Just for a few days, see where that would lead to. Well, the backfiring is gone (not totally, it happened once so far w/o aircleaner) but now it's much harder to start. It cranks over all right, just takes long(er) to fire up. Weird eh?
So, do you think my car used to build up fuel vapors or whatever in the air cleaner ducts, therefore backfiring as well as firing up right away?
About this firing up business: I still sort of service my former car, a 94 CSET, which I sold to a buddy. This car always took it's time firing up. But after I replaced the negative battery cable ($42 original SAAB), on account of all sorts of elecrical problems, it fired up right away!
I'm interested in anything you can come up with... Thanks.
