If you change your AMM settings you also mess up your emmisions and if you are due to put your car in for it's "stress test", it might not pass. I screwed around with mine in earlier years and when I went for the mandatory emmission test I had high CO readings as well as a few other things they bitched about. I reset it to 380 Ohms and went right back to really clean running. Actual procedure involved multimeter readings off the O2 sensor for final screw settings. Later models don't even have a screw to turn (as in the all black plastic AMMs).
